Chedomil Mijatovich (1842–1932) was a Serbian politician, historian, and writer. He served several terms as the minister of finance in Serbia, as well as minister of foreign affairs and minister plenipotentiary. He also contributed many entries to the Encyclopedia Britannica (32 vols.). Mijatovich studied economics and science at Munich, Zurich, and Leipzig. He was a devoted member of the Serbian Orthodox Church. He translated much into Serbian in his effort to stimulate religious revival in the church, including sermons from Charles Spurgeon.

The value of this book is that it was written BEFIORE World War I and II and the collapse of the Ottoman Empire. The vivid detail of the writer's style combined with researched and documented original sources, makes this content accessible to someone at the beginner level of church history. The conditions facing Byzantium during the mid-1400's are eerily similar to where Western Christianity is today! Highly recommend.
