One of the most significant works in Czech literature, this is a new English translation of an allegory of the spiritual journey as experienced by a seventeenth-century pilgrim. John Comenius (1592–1670) was the pastor and spiritual leader of the Bohemian Brethren (Unitas Fratrum), a Czech Protestant group inspired by the Hussite movement of the 15th century. His heartfelt and insightful teaching via allegory is included in this volume.
For a massive collection including over a hundred and twenty of the volumes in this series, see the Classics of Western Spirituality Bundle (126 vols.).
“This very point was clearly articulated in the Czech Reformation: Jesus Christ is the Lord. He is not only the savior of souls and the teacher of wisdom, but the king of the church and the world. He will reign! What really matters, then, is to live in conformity with his coming kingdom, and in this light to shape the alienated world, first within the church, and then also in society.” (Page 2)
John Amos Comenius (1592–1670) was a Czech teacher, educator, and writer. In 1614 he was ordained into the ministry of the Moravian Brethren, and he considered pastoral work the most important of all his duties.
