Logos has received a number of requests to create tools that will work in tandem with the content we provide. The most frequent request of that nature concerns helping people use the tremendous Hebrew and Greek resources in Logos Bible Software. We are aware of the research that suggests less than 20% of pastors who have had biblical language training actually use that training on a regular basis. We’ve also taken note that many schools around the country no longer require Greek and Hebrew for seminary or pre-seminary training. We hope to do something about that, and our lessons in using Hebrew and Greek language tools are the first step.
Traditional methods involve hundreds of hours of memorizing vocabulary and grammatical forms, and most students—even motivated and successful students—simply cannot wait for the class to end. Worse, in the real world of ministry, no one has the kind of time it takes to maintain the level of proficiency acquired in Hebrew and Greek classes. Furthermore, traditional Hebrew and Greek learning focuses on translation and rarely gets beyond parsing forms and discussing how you might put a word or phrase into English. In other words, students too often never get exposed to the payoff of understanding Hebrew and Greek. Knowing what kind of noun or verb you’re looking at isn’t the same as discerning how that information might translate into a sermon or point of biblical theology. That’s what’s missing in language training, and that is our focus in these lessons.
Learn to Use Biblical Greek and Hebrew with Logos Bible Software puts the payoff of biblical language knowledge up front. There is no rote memorization of vocabulary or grammatical forms. Really. That’s because Learn to Use Biblical Greek and Hebrew with Logos Bible Software is designed to show you how to properly use the tools used by advanced seminarians. The focus of Learn to Use Biblical Greek and Hebrew with Logos Bible Software is to give you interpretation skills in the biblical languages.
